21 Day Fix

Are you doing the 21 Day Fix? I love this program because it’s a fantastic, common sense program that will get you RESULTS if you stick with it. I love it because it’s not a “diet” that eliminates whole food groups or gives you a list of things you can’t eat.  Instead, it’s a portion control system that helps me eat balanced meals throughout the day. There’s room for all my favorite foods. This is the program I pull out every time my nutrition starts to go off the rails and I need to rein it back in. It’s what I’ve used to help shed injury weight and also get me back into my jeans. That’s what it’s all about, right?

Getting into those jeans and feeling good about ourselves. You can totally do it. The 21 Day Fix is a great program, but it’s not a magic pill. You’ll have to put in the work and stick with it even when the shine wears off. That’s how you’ll get results.

21 Day Fix 101: What’s it all about?

Simple Eating Plan. 30 Minute workouts. Accountability


One of the reasons I love the 21 Day Fix is because it focuses on eating real food and portion control. It doesn’t eliminate entire food groups or push a bunch of crazy supplements. Instead, it focuses on eating reasonable portions of actual food – carbs included. Sometimes, we all need a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate and The Fix makes room for that.  It breaks the food groups into containers. So there is no counting calories, carbs or points. Just use the containers to measure out portions and make sure you are getting enough of each group. Although I sometimes go off the rails, I am basically a healthy eater. The Fix taught me portion control and helped me realize that I wasn’t eating a balanced diet. It’s basically fool proof.

It’s the only eating plan I have ever been able to follow consistently and I bring it out whenever I need to re-focus my efforts. The workouts are easy-to-follow 30 minute boot camp style routines incorporating cardio, strength, yoga, and Pilates. Anybody can do it. Simple Eating: It’s all about portion control and the containers make it so easy.

The meal plan uses a color coded container system to make sure you are eating enough of each food group. There is a formula in the guide book that calculates your container count based on the  number of calories you should eat each day. Then, it’s just a matter of using those containers as a measuring tool and checking them off as you go.  The containers give you the perfect portion size and you don’t need to count calories or carbs or cut whole food groups out of your diet. It’s so easy and you will be surprised how much food you are eating.

Green is for veggies
Purple is for fruits
Red is for proteins
Yellow is for carbs
Blue is for healthy fats
Orange is for dressings
Teaspoons are for oils and nut butters

The workouts are short and easy to follow.  So, you can get them done and get on with your day.  I promise, you will feel them the next day.

The most important part of any plan is accountability. What good is a plan if you don’t follow it? We all have those little cheats – those things we do that sabotage our efforts. Having accountability is the best defense against those little cheats. It keeps you focused on your goals. It’s also a whole lot easier to do a program with someone than all by yourself.  I run free online challenge groups every month with people just like you who are doing the same program. We share recipes, tips, motivation and support and keep each other on track.
